Simone's Teaching Journey in New Zealand

What inspired your move to New Zealand?

"There were a few reasons for my move. First, I was made redundant from my previous job at a small village school in the UK, so I started thinking about my next steps. My sister and her family have been living in New Zealand for five years, and I thought this would be a great opportunity to make a fresh start. Additionally, teaching in the UK had become increasingly difficult, and I wanted to experience teaching in a different country and hopefully reignite my passion for the profession."

How did we help with your relocation and settling in?

"While I had family here to help me with the actual relocation, Billie’s support with the job search was invaluable. She checked in on me several times to see how I was adjusting, which was really appreciated."

What’s been the best part of living and working in New Zealand?

"The best part has been learning a new curriculum and seeing how the children’s needs are prioritized. There’s also a great work-life balance here, and I hope that continues. New Zealand is beautiful, and every weekend feels like a holiday. Despite being away from family and friends, I’ve enjoyed exploring stunning places and learning about the culture. Life here is slower-paced and peaceful, and I feel incredibly lucky to be living here—it sometimes still feels like a dream."

How has this new job impacted your life or career?

"This job has reignited my passion for teaching. I’ve learned so much about the New Zealand education system and found a renewed sense of inspiration in my work. I’ve also shared the new strategies I’ve learned with my teacher friends back in the UK, and they’re excited to try them. Personally, moving to New Zealand has brought me peace. I’ve struggled with anxiety in the past, especially due to the pressure in UK teaching. Since moving here, I’ve felt less stressed and more at ease. Billie and my new school have been fantastic in supporting me through this transition—thank you!"

What were you looking for in a role, and how did we help you find it?

"I was looking for a Primary school teaching role. Billie helped me improve my CV, shared it with schools, and secured interviews. Although the first role was no longer available, Billie helped me land a second interview and I was offered the job shortly after."

What did you like most about the support from your consultant?

"Billie was attentive, always available, and supportive throughout the process. Moving to a new country was nerve-wracking, but Billie reassured me every step of the way and made the whole experience easy."

How well does your new job fit what you were looking for?

"My new role fits perfectly! I wanted a class teacher position in a Primary school that shared my values, and I’ve found that with my current school. It’s a great match, and I can’t imagine working anywhere else. They have been incredibly supportive of my move and the transition process."

What’s your favourite part about your new employer or team?

"My school and team have been very supportive, both professionally and personally. They’ve helped me learn the New Zealand curriculum, which is new to me. Everyone is approachable, and I can ask questions when I need to (which has been quite a few!). I’m still learning, but I know my team will continue to support me. They’ve also been amazing in helping me adjust to life here, and they frequently check in to make sure I’m settling in well. I’ve already made great friendships with my colleagues."

Any challenges we helped you overcome?

"Billie was there to support me with the tricky admin process involved in moving to New Zealand. She gave me reassurance when I needed it most. I couldn’t have made the move without Billie’s help."
