Kura o runga / Secondary Education

Prospero Teaching assists secondary teachers in securing positions across New Zealand. Leveraging our extensive network and well-established relationships with principals across Aotearoa, we open doors to opportunities that meet your career aspirations.

Secondary education in New Zealand caters to students from Year 9 to Year 13 (aged 13 to 18 years old). The curriculum covers core subjects such as English Math and Science, and a wide range of specialist subjects including Technology, ESOL, Art and Outdoor Education.  Many schools have adopted a cross-curricular approach to learning, especially in the junior classes.

NCEA (National Certificate in Educational Achievement) is the main secondary school qualification in New Zealand and is usually offered during year 11-13.  Some schools offer Cambridge (CIE) or International Baccalaureate (IB) pathways. Students can also study towards vocational (work) qualifications.
